Anyone that knows me can tell you that I am always Googling new and upcoming artists. There is one in particular that I have a lot of respect and admiration for, his name is Kirk Randle. You may know him by Kirko Bangz. This Houston native is more than a rapper to me. I would consider him an intellectual as well as a true business man.
His song, “Drank In My Cup”, is number one on the hip hop charts. Since 2009, he has released five mixed tapes- three in the Procrastination Kills series, Progression and Progression 2: A Young Texas Playa. This year he will
drop his debut album on Warner Bros. Records. Kirko has been compared to Lil’ Wayne and Drake, which is a huge accomplishment considering he is the “new kid on the block” in the industry. Critics and naysayers have called him a one hit wonder, but with songs like “That Pole” featuring Chris Brown, among others, he is sure to prove them wrong.

Vh1’s hit reality show “Love and Hip Hop will premiere June 18 at 8 p.m. This time the show is set in a new city, Atlanta, along with a new cast.
Cast members include: rapper Rasheeda and her husband Kirk Frost, rapper Lil’ Scrappy and his mom, a Latina rapper name Joseline, singer K. Michelle, Grammy Award winning producer Stevie J. and new R &B and Trinidadian singer Karlie Redd. Stevie J has worked with well-known artists such as Jay-Z, and Diddy, his girlfriend Mimi Haust will also appear on the show. Rasheeda has been in the music business for a long time, but has yet to find her big break into mainstream music. Her husband is also her manager. Rapper Diamond of Crime Mob was set to be a main character on the show, but she declined once her ex-boyfriend Lil’ Scrappy and his mother, known as Mama Dee were revealed as cast members on the show. Lil’ Scrappy also appear on the show with his girlfriend, Erica Dixon.
Now, I have never heard of Karlie Reed or Joseline….perhaps they will remind viewers of Somaya Reece? This should be an interesting season to watch. It is definitely a great way to continue to put Atlanta and its artists on the map. Maybe by the end of the show, people will recognize Joseline and Karlie Reed for their music and K. Michelle will have another hit on her hands. As far as Rasheeda, who is extremely talented and in her own lane, she deserves to be a mainstream rapper. I hope that her behavior on the show will prove that. Lil’ Scrappy needs to come back with another hit single as well.
The show will have 10 episodes. The first and second season of Love and Hip Hop were filmed in New York and consisted of Jim Jones, his girlfirend Chrissy, his mother Mama Jones, singer Oliva, Emily B, (rapper Fabulous’ girlfriend), Latina rapper Somaya Reece, Yandy Smith,( Jim Jones former manager) and Kimbella, (girlfriend of rapper Cam’Ron). The show drew 2 to 3 million viewers per week in its original airing. I wonder if the ratings will be the same after this season? There is only one way to find out!
I’m excited to watch the show and I hope you are too! Stay tuned.
(Also, I may do another post taking a closer look at each cast member soon!)
I am a music lover, I must confess. In my younger days, I was a B2k fanatic! Lil’ Fizz was my absolute favorite and I still have every B2k album. I have always wanted to be in the music industry, so even at an early age, I made sure I knew their manager and record label. Anything that was affiliated with B2k, I knew about it.
Jhene Aiko was featured in their video “Why I Love You”. There is an interview with her singing when she was around 14. I loved her voice. I listened to her song “Gonna Love You Anyway”, over and over. I often wondered why she never got signed. She is extremely talented!
She has proven her talents with her latest project entitled “Sailing Souls”. No longer a teenage girl, but a proud mother and young woman, Jhene has received great and positive feedback from this release. It features songs such as “Do Better Blues”, featuring rap artist H.O.P.E and “Hoe”, a collaboration with singing sensation Miguel. Jhene’s lyrics and vocals are equivalent to perfection. You can listen to it all day and night and never grow tired of hearing it. It has such a smooth and soothing feel to it.
In an interview with Vibe magazine, Jhene talked about her overall message to fans: “A lot of people are still confused about what that means, and it just means to stay true to yourself and go with what you feel. Feeling are really the only thing that is real. I kinda want to convey the message to just be yourself. Don’t ever lose yourself for whatever reason—because you want to make more money, because you want to be prettier or whatever. I’m not a slave to anyone; I’m sailing my soul instead of selling it.”
It is evident that Jhene has a very free and loving spirit. She is not afraid to speak her mind and be herself. This comes out in her music. She is truly an amazing artist and songwriter. I cannot wait to hear her upcoming release “Souled Out”. I hope to interview and work with her some day soon!
