Introducing Vincent G. Lane

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Vincent Lane is no stranger to shining lights and bright marquees. Growing up, Lane wanted to pursue a career as a wide receiver in football. However, things didn’t go quite as planned. Due to his unique look and encouragement from family and friends, he discovered that he was meant to be a model.
With idols such as Will Smith, Vincent knows that it is more than possible to make something out of nothing. After his first official modeling session and photo shoot, Vincent knew that he had the potential to be an advantageous model. Vincent is no ordinary model, and possesses qualities that many models in the industry lack. His hard work and dedication are endless and he remains humble, increasing his astounding personality. Modeling for four years strong, he has become dedicated to going above and beyond, going the extra mile to ensure that he is the best at his craft.

Lane has incredible sex appeal, and has the structure and look for both high-end fashion and editorial shoots. Not only does he have the hunger and dedication to be a high-end model, he wants to expand his career options and opportunities as a sports agent and songwriter as well. The sky is the limit for this young man of talent and success.

You’re probably wondering what I have in common with Vincent G. Lane? I am proud to announce that he is my client! His website will be launched soon and I am in the process of connecting with fashion bloggers for features. If you are interested, please contact me at!

Kirko Bangz: More Than A One Hit Wonder

Anyone that knows me can tell you that I am always Googling new and upcoming artists. There is one in particular that I have a lot of respect and admiration for, his name is Kirk Randle. You may know him by Kirko Bangz. This Houston native is more than a rapper to me. I would consider him an intellectual as well as a true business man.
His song, “Drank In My Cup”, is number one on the hip hop charts.  Since 2009, he has released five mixed tapes- three in the Procrastination Kills series, Progression and Progression 2: A Young Texas Playa. This year he will
drop his debut album on Warner Bros. Records. Kirko has been compared to Lil’ Wayne and Drake, which is a huge accomplishment considering he is the “new kid on the block” in the industry. Critics and naysayers have called him a one hit wonder, but with songs like “That Pole” featuring Chris Brown, among others, he is sure to prove them wrong.

New Season of Love & Hip Hop: ATL Edition

Vh1’s hit reality show “Love and Hip Hop  will premiere June 18 at 8 p.m. This time the show is set in a new city, Atlanta, along with a new cast.

Cast members include: rapper Rasheeda and her husband Kirk Frost,  rapper Lil’ Scrappy and his mom, a Latina rapper name Joseline, singer K. Michelle, Grammy Award winning producer Stevie J. and new R &B and Trinidadian  singer Karlie Redd.   Stevie J has worked with well-known artists such as Jay-Z,  and Diddy, his girlfriend Mimi Haust will also appear on the show.  Rasheeda has been in the music business for a long time, but has yet to find her big break into mainstream music. Her husband is also her manager.  Rapper Diamond of Crime Mob was set to be a main character on the show, but she declined once her ex-boyfriend Lil’ Scrappy and his mother, known as Mama Dee were revealed as cast members on the show. Lil’ Scrappy also appear on the show with his girlfriend, Erica Dixon.

Now, I have never heard of Karlie Reed or Joseline….perhaps they will remind viewers of Somaya Reece? This should be an interesting season to watch. It is definitely a great way to continue to put Atlanta and its artists on the map.  Maybe by the end of the show, people will recognize Joseline and Karlie Reed for their music and K. Michelle will have another hit on her hands.  As far as Rasheeda, who is extremely talented and in her own lane, she deserves to be a mainstream rapper. I hope that her behavior on the show will prove that.  Lil’ Scrappy needs to come back with another hit single as well.

The show will have 10 episodes. The first and second season of Love and Hip Hop were filmed in New York and consisted of Jim Jones, his girlfirend Chrissy, his mother Mama Jones, singer Oliva, Emily B, (rapper Fabulous’ girlfriend), Latina rapper Somaya Reece, Yandy Smith,( Jim Jones former manager) and Kimbella, (girlfriend of rapper Cam’Ron).   The show  drew 2 to 3 million viewers per week in its original airing. I wonder if the ratings will be the same after this season? There is only one way to find out!
I’m excited to watch the show and I hope you are too! Stay tuned.

(Also, I may do another post taking a closer look at each cast member soon!)

Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall No Longer Playing In “The Game”

According to,Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall, better known as Melanie and Derwin Davis of BET’s “The Game”, will NOT be returning next season.

Mowry announced to fans via Twitter: “Just wanted to let all my fans know that I will not be returning to The Game for season 6. It was an incredible run and I had lots of fun along the way. I am looking forward to my upcoming projects…the release of my book #OhBaby [today!], season 2 of @TiaTameraShow on @mystyle premiering in June, and my @ABCFamily movie coming out in December…more to come!” love u so much”

BET’s hit show “The Game” is about  the lives of professional of football players. Tia and Pooch’s characters are a major part of the show’s plot. Hall is working on another project.

I am a huge fan of this show. And although the other characters in the show are funny and amazing, I’m not sure if the show can survive without them. It definitely will not be the same. Everyone loves Melanie and Derwin. They helped to make the show what it is today. Sad to say, but BET’s “The Game”, will lose ratings as well as their fan base because of this change.

Do you think the show can maintain its success without Melanie and Derwin?

Beyonce’s Brand Management Through Website

(This is one of the photos featured in the “I AM” section of Beyonce’s website. Simply stunning!)

Beyonce’ Giselle Knowles is my favorite singer in the entire world! Her talent is  immeasurable and her demeanor seems to be private, yet sweet and perhaps a little overprotected. I have been a fan since Destiny’s Child and always will be. Over the years she has grown from a teenage girl to a grown woman.

The media has taken its jabs, but she is still standing. B is now a wife and mother and has also taken control of her career. She manages herself, her father Matthew Knowles was her manager for quite a while. I am sure she has help and a great publicist, however, you can definitely see that she has a huge say so in a lot of different things.

For example, instead of getting money from the media for her baby Blue Ivy Carter’s pictures, Beyonce decided to put the pictures on her own Tumblr site. Most recently, she wrote a Mother’s Day letter to her mother, Tina Knowles, and placed it on her site for fans and media to see.

“Everything I am is because of you! You are the first voice that ever sang to me,” she wrote. At every turn you push me to be better. When I look into your eyes, I am sooo proud. Now that I’m a mother, I truly realize all the sacrifices you made for us,” wrote Beyonce’ in the letter entitled, “Mama Letter”.

Also on her site, there is a section called I Am, which includes never before seen photos from Beyonce’s most personal moments with her family. This is a great way for fans and media to feel more connected to her. By giving them a glimpse of her life outside of her music, Beyonce’ maintains her image and brand. The website’s new look and feel is an innovative way for B to manage her brand, and in a way, be her own spokesperson without having to say a word. Marketing genius? I think so.

Jhene Aiko: Sailing Souls

I am a music lover, I must confess.  In my younger days, I was a B2k fanatic! Lil’ Fizz was my absolute favorite and I still have every B2k album. I have always wanted to be in the music industry, so even at an early age, I made sure I knew their manager and record label. Anything that was affiliated with B2k, I knew about it.

Jhene Aiko  was  featured in their video “Why I Love You”. There is an interview with her singing  when she was around 14. I loved her voice. I listened to her song “Gonna Love You Anyway”, over and over. I often wondered why she never got signed. She is extremely talented!

She has proven her talents with her latest project entitled “Sailing Souls”. No longer a teenage girl, but a proud mother and young woman, Jhene has received great and positive feedback from this release. It features songs such as “Do Better Blues”, featuring rap artist H.O.P.E and “Hoe”, a collaboration with singing sensation Miguel. Jhene’s lyrics and vocals are equivalent to perfection. You can listen to it all day and night and never grow tired of hearing it. It has such a smooth and soothing feel to it.

In an interview with Vibe magazine, Jhene talked about her overall message to fans: “A lot of people are still confused about what that means, and it just means to stay true to yourself and go with what you feel. Feeling are really the only thing that is real. I kinda want to convey the message to just be yourself. Don’t ever lose yourself for whatever reason—because you want to make more money, because you want to be prettier or whatever. I’m not a slave to anyone; I’m sailing my soul instead of selling it.”

It is evident that  Jhene has a very free and loving spirit. She is not afraid to speak her mind and be herself. This  comes out in her music. She is truly an amazing artist and songwriter. I cannot wait to hear her upcoming release “Souled Out”. I hope to interview and work with her some day soon!

Check out some of Jhene’s music!

Choosing Your Clients Wisely

Public relations practitioners MUST have clients, our livelihood depends on them. But, not all clients are good clients.  You have to be very cautious about who you work with and what they represent. There is a difference between choosing a client that has a crisis and choosing a client that is a crisis. When contacted by potential clients, schedule a meeting, perhaps over lunch or breakfast.

Once you have set up the meeting, write out a Client Needs Analysis, (CNA). This document consists of a series of questions that will allow you to get to know the client better. Where are they in terms of their career? How can PR enhance and get them to where they want to be? What do they like to do? These are questions that are important. Often times, people are under the impression that PR will help them to generate instant gratification and publicity. It does NOT  work like that.

It takes time and patience to develop and execute a successful PR campaign. It is important that your potential client understands this. Bring the CNA with you to the initial meeting. Make sure that you have done your homework in regards to the client, their career and how they act. If you have heard horror stories from other publicists, you may not want to work with this person. No amount of money is worth your name, brand, integrity or dignity.

Be sure that the potential client knows that YOU DO NOT WORK FOR FREE AND YOUR FEES ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE. The client must have a budget in order to pay you for your services.  If they cannot pay your retainer, you can allow them to do a payment plan with you. Although, I would not recommend it.

Once people see that you are bending the rules, they tend to take complete advantage and this could lead to a huge loss of money, time and energy.  Most importantly, make sure the client is aware of the services you offer. You should know their expectations of you, and they should know what you expect from them as well.

Clients can be a joy or a pain to work with. Keep the lines of communication open. Be professional at all times. If you feel that there is an issue with your client, be sure to speak with him/her immediately. Know your worth and others will respect you for it!
